Science Fun

Today Mrs. Jacobs, our middle school Science teacher, is here at YCES to show our students a number of science experiments.

What fun!!!

We're learning about inertia ...

We're learning about hot and cold molecules ...

We're learning about CO2 (carbon dioxide) ...

We're learning about acids and bases ...

Please ask your children what they learned today about science!

The 2016 Annual YC Mad Science Fair is Thursday, February 11, 2016.
Keep an eye out for take-home information about this event coming soon.

We hope everyone participates in this fun experience!

Forensic Science at YCES!

A crime has been committed in the library …
do you know who did it???

This week in place of library time, students get to experience the exciting world of Forensic Science!  Students have been given the opportunity to collect evidence and try to determine the culprit.  Someone destroyed library books … and left a mess - not to mention a lot of damage!

We are experimenting with finger print collection, footprint collection, chromatography, interrogation and fiber analysis.

Ask your children if they can tell you how they figured out who committed this horrible crime!  They have been asking some terrific questions!!!

This is all part of science month at YCES in preparation for the:
2015 Mad Science Fair

We’re excited to see what experiments you come up with!!!

Portland Mad Science Assembly

YCES kicked off a month of science this past Monday morning.  We enjoyed a visit from Mischief - a Mad Scientist from Mad Science Portland.

The assembly was all about fire, ice, and air ... the kids had a great time!

The YCSD Science Fair will be on Thursday, February 12th this year.

Be looking in your take home folders for information about the science fair and experiments you can try at home.
